21st Century Revision - A Guide To Getting Good Grades=)

by LadyKreuger @ Saturday, 31. May, 2008 - 10:46:20 pm

Hello there!

So, before my A-Level exams, my school sent out a revision guide to all our parents telling them what we should do to revise better.

Needless to say, I think I've done terrible, I couldn't concentrate on my revision. A taster of that revision guide would be this:

  • Eat plenty of fish - this I can understand, fish is a brain food. But how many teenagers do you know who want to eat fish all the time?? Madness.
  • Create a quiet atmosphere - this turned out useless. I got extremely side-tracked.
  • Don't eat sweets - this is insane! Sweets, particularly chocolate, contain sugar, which is a brilliant source of energy. And most people walk to school, this will burn off the calories, and give you time to think!

Right then. Here be the real guide, with 5 relly simple steps that anyone can follow. A guide for this day and age. To coin a phrase.

  1. Try to eat 5-a-day. But don't force yourself to eat food you don't like.
  2. Use adverts(interesting ones) and clips from films & TV shows to help you remember things. For instance, In Bruce Almighty, he spells out the word "Beautiful" B-E-A-Utiful. This is how I have made myself remember how to spell beautiful.
  3. Read through all your material, make some scrappy notes, read htem, then chuck them in the recycling. Then make some more without reading your material again, then check these against your material.
  4. Get some coloured pens and make spider diagrams(splatter diagrams, brain-storms, whatever you call them) of all your material. Bright colours always help the brain remember things.
  5. Obtain past-papers from your teachers. Get as many as you can, then use a timer on your phone or watch or an egg timer, time yourself to see how well you can complete the paper within the time limit. If you don't, then it shows you need a little practise at writing under pressure. Then come the day of the real exam, you whizz through without rushing your actual answer.

I hope I've enlightened you. And I hope you do brilliantly in your exams!

Good Luck! xXxXx
